Jesolo, Venice
Oh glorious sun!
The weather throughout our stay in Italy was by far the best of the entire trip! It was warm enough for shorts and there was hardly a cloud in the sky. I was already starting to get over the effects of the dreaded cold, wet Vienna afternoon, so sunshine and warmth were just what was needed to attain full recovery.
We were in great spirits as we ate breakfast and drove west towards the ferry station. The ferry ride to Venice was pleasant and I cannot adequately describe how beautiful the city looked as we approached it! There are many cities which look nice in photographs, but are not that extraordinary in real life. Venice was just as thoroughly magnificent in person as in any photograph of it that I'd ever seen! We spent a wonderful day exploring the city's bridges and canals and took the last ferry back to the mainland. We opted not to splurge on a gondola ride but did ride down the Grand Canal on the public transit bus (which is a boat of course). That was nice but next time we want to splurge on the gondola.
Oh, and we found out later that the Venice Film Festival was happening the day we were there but we did not realize it. Too bad, it would have been nice to at least find out what was showing.
