Tropical fruit are an important economic factor...

... and the basis for French Polynesian food and drink.

Banana trees ...

... ripe with fruit grow in abundance.

Coconut palms, too, dominate the islands,
mostly growing wild...

... sometimes on plantations.

This plantation has papaya trees ...

... but we also saw some in the wild.

Huge towering mango trees, too, are frequent ...

... carrying large, aromatic fruit.

This is a fruit related to (but not actually) pineapple.

The pineapples grown on Moorea and Raiatea are small,
with dark yellow flesh and a milder, sweeter taste. They're delicious.

Dhurians are large, round fruits with an intensive smell.
They grow on trees all over the islands.

We also saw a few fig trees.

In Raiatea, wild raspberries grow
in the tropical rainforest.
