This applet is an implementation of Johan Gielis's Superformula which
was published in the
March 2003 American Journal of Botany.
Here are some news articles about it: Apparently there's a new graphics company based on it: genicap Playing with a b and m seem the most intersting so far. Start off by changing m. You can type in values directly and use the Calculate button or just use the sliders to the right. I screwed up my first attempt at translating the formula into cartesian coordinates, but then my friend Jeff found some C code online that implemented it here and I was able to get that working (see bottom of that page).
